Working During Covid-19
During the Covid-19 pandemic I have found myself working on project after project, with each one teaching me more about how one can shoot safely and innovatively in these extremely difficult times. To highlight just a few….
Modified Stage Shoot
Modified Stage in BK: Everyone wore masks, there were temperature checks before entering, stations with hand sanitizer, gloves and masks peppered throughout the stage, a covid specialist on site and the crew was paired down to only the essential, a live feed was provided for anyone not on set. But it still looks amazing and is funny - you couldn’t even tell it was shot during the time of Corona, could you?
Completely Remote Shoot
Completely Remote: No one was on the film site - we sent packages with cameras, laptops, lights, first aid kits. We had an entire crew of department heads, from DP to Art Director to Food Stylist on Zoom helping set frames and walk talent through setting up gear and using the camera. We cast remotely across 4 different cities. Had a live feed for the agency Gut. Shot 8 spots in 4 days. The campaign garnered millions of hits (the above spot 7 million), so even remote we can make it impactful. Just sayin’.
Tiny Mostly Outdoor Totally Local Shoot
Tiny Mostly Outdoor Local: 3 people crew shot, all shot in a 5 block radius around my neighborhood in Brooklyn (including my fire escape, my neighbors, my pizza joint, and my bodega). Even with that TINY footprint, I absolutely love this PSA, which in the end of the day is really just an ode to the city I love.
There are a whole range of other shoots I’ve directed - let me know if you wanna chat and we can talk about how I figured them out. xo MP
